March 24, 2013 - the day I crossed into the prestigious ranks of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated specifically through the Illustrious Iota Lambda Chapter with 28 extraordinary ladies now known as the Prodigies of Hedera (POH for short).
5 years later, we came back together at the University of Florida to celebrate our AKAversary and welcome our great grand neos of Spring 2018 to the sisterhood!
I credit my journey of the woman I am today to AKA. This sorority has taught me patience, creativity, leadership, compassion, humility, cultural awareness, the importance of teamwork and friendship, and the list goes on and on... I was a feisty yet timid freshman when I was granted the opportunity to join and my prophytes and surrounding sisters essentially helped me grow up. I am forever blessed and indebted to the Iota Lambda Chapter.
Two cents of advice to my neos would be to love your sister regardless of the circumstance and to not let your love for AKA stop after undergrad. Membership dues will be expensive - trust me, I know but there's so much more to Alpha Kappa Alpha than strolling/stepping, late night hang outs, AGP, etc. The sisterhood and service are lifelong commitments.
